Ben Herring

Since retiring as a professional rugby player having played for Southland Stags and Wellington Lions in New Zealand’s NPC, the Highlanders and Hurricanes in Super Rugby and then for Leicester Tigers in England’s premiership, Ben has built a global coaching résumé, working across club, provincial and international programs in different countries. 

His coaching roles have included

Assistant Coach, Leicester Tigers – helping deliver Premiership titles and Heineken Cup campaigns. In Japan, NEC Green Rockets – forwards and defence coach, Sunwolves -Assistant Coach, Toyota Verblitz head coach.

In New Zealand as Otago head coach winning the Ranfurly Shield and a Championship finalist plus Highlanders assistant coach. Plus, a period as the Rugby Site Manager.

He also had a stint with Rugby Canada – coaching both the 15s and 7s programs for men and women.

Ben is known not just for technical coaching but for team culture, leadership and coach development, emphasising communication, psychological safety, and collective ownership.
He also co-authored Coaching Culture, and hosts the Coaching Culture podcast, sharing insights on leadership, behaviours and performance in sport.
