Mike first made his name in the international sevens circuit as Head Coach of England Sevens and later Great Britain Sevens.
Under his leadership, England consistently competed at the top level of the IRB/World Rugby Sevens Series, producing strong performances and developing world-class sevens talent.
Mike took over as Head Coach of Kenya Sevens and is credited with transforming Kenyan rugby sevens into a consistent contender on the world stage.
His work in Kenya included improving professionalism, fitness standards, and team structures, delivering some of Kenya’s best results in the World Series and at major events.
In 2014, Friday was appointed Head Coach of the USA Rugby Sevens programme.
He guided the USA Sevens team to new heights, including winning their first World Series event in 2018 at the Singapore Sevens — a milestone for American rugby.
Under his stewardship, the USA became a regular fixture in sevens finals and a respected force in the series.
In 2021 Mike Friday returned to lead England Sevens again, combining high-performance coaching with leadership development across the men’s and women’s programmes.
