Wayne Smith

Wayne “Smithy” Smith, also known as “The Professor”, is a legend of the game, one of the founders of The Rugby Site, and widely regarded as one of the smartest rugby minds to have coached the game. Known for his astute game understanding, innovative attack strategies, attention to detail, deep analytical capability, exceptional play development skills and creating outstanding team environments. 

He has won three Rugby World Cups — twice as an Assistant Coach with the All Blacks (2011 and 2015) and once as Head Coach of the Black Ferns (2021).

Wayne previously served as Head Coach of the All Blacks (2000–2001) and has enjoyed outstanding success at Super Rugby level, leading the Crusaders to titles in 1998 and 1999, and the Chiefs to back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

He has also held numerous consulting roles, including with NRL powerhouse Melbourne Storm and Japan League One champions Kobelco Steelers.

As a player, Wayne was also an All Black, earning 17 Test caps.
